Americká společnost pro hmotnostní spektrometrii (ASMS) byla založena v roce 1969 s cílem podporovat a šířit znalosti o hmotnostní spektrometrii a příbuzných tématech. Členství zahrnuje přes 8 500 vědců zapojených do výzkumu a vývoje. Členové pocházejí z akademických, průmyslových a vládních laboratoří. Mezi jejich zájmy patří rozvoj technik a přístrojového vybavení v hmotnostní spektrometrii, stejně jako základní výzkum v chemii, geologii, forenzní, biologických vědách a fyzice.
