Ion chromatography: Principles and applications

Ion chromatography (IC) is a powerful analytical technique for separating and quantifying ions and polar substances. Due to these properties, IC has become an important tool for water analysis, quality testing of foodstuffs, monitoring electrolytes, and more.
In an upcoming webinar on 15 May Dr. Julius Fürsch and Dr. Katinka Ruth from Metrohm International Headquarters will introduce the fundamentals of IC, including the separation mechanisms and the general setup of an ion chromatography system.
The presenters will explore detection methods such as conductivity, UV/VIS, and amperometry as well as suppression techniques for a better signal-to-noise ratio. Key applications from water and food testing as well as electrolyte monitoring will also be presented. In a Q&A session at the end of the webinar, the presenters will be happy to answer any questions you may have about ion chromatography.

Presenter: Dr. Katinka Ruth (Sr. Application Specialist Ion Chromatography, Metrohm International Headquarters)
Dr. Ruth received her MSc in Chemistry at the Technical University Munich and a PhD in Environmental Sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). She has gained extensive knowledge in ion chromatography and hyphenation of ion chromatography to mass spectrometers during her 15 years of experience at Metrohm International Headquarters, where she holds a position as Senior Application Specialist.
Presenter: Dr. Julius Fürsch (Application Specialist Ion Chromatography, Metrohm International Headquarters)
Dr. Fürsch obtained his MSc in Biotechnology from the Westfälische Wilhelms-University Münster and completed his PhD in Biology with a focus on LC-MS/MS at the University of Konstanz. Following his PhD, he worked as a scientist at CDMO Bachem, primarily involved in HPLC and LC-MS method development for peptide-based drug candidates. Since June 2024, he has been employed as an Application Specialist in Ion Chromatography at Metrohm International Headquarters, further expanding his analytical expertise.
