Program
13:30-13:35 Opening
13:35-13:55 Introduction to Bruker's New MALDI-TOF/MS Product: neofleX
13:55-14:35 Fundamentals of MALDI Mass Spectrometry
This session provides a foundational explanation of ionization by MALDI and the principles and overview of MALDI mass spectrometers.
14:35-15:00 Imaging by MALDI Mass Spectrometry
This session covers the mechanism of MALDI-imaging, along with the current and latest applications. MALDI-imaging leverages the inherent quality of MALDI as a surface analysis technique by scanning across the surface of a sample in discrete position. Compounds from the sample surface at each position are ionized and detected generating distinct mass spectrum, which are collated and visualized as detailed ion images. Targeted compounds such as drug molecules and their metabolites can be visualized, while untargeted analysis and integration of multi-omics datasets of lipids, metabolites and targeted protein enables biomarker discovery.
15:00-15:20 Polymer Analysis by MALDI Mass Spectrometry
MALDI mass spectrometry is also used for analyzing synthetic polymers. Its gentle ionization allows analysis without fragmenting polymer molecules. It can provide detailed information unattainable by other methods by leveraging its features, which include simple spectra, wide mass range, and high mass resolution. We will introduce the fundamentals of spectral analysis, dedicated software, and practical examples.
