Overcoming LC Analytical Challenges for Radiopharmaceutical Development

Radiopharmaceuticals fall into two major categories: radiodiagnostics and radiotherapeutics. The analysis and development of these compounds can be challenging, as they often contain chelator moieties that can bind to metal surfaces, particularly in the case of radiotherapeutic precursors.

This webinar will present solutions to mitigate interactions between chelating moieties and metal surfaces, along with examples of radiopharmaceutical analysis. Topics will include precursor analysis using HILIC and a forced degradation study using RPLC.

Presenter: Dr. Anthony Belanger (Principal Scientist, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute)

Dr. Anthony Belanger is the Scientific Director of the Molecular Cancer Imaging Facility (MCIF), Principal Scientist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Research Associate at Harvard Medical School. He received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Boston College and completed post-doctoral training in radiochemistry and radiopharmaceutical development at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). He later joined the BWH department of Nuclear Medicine, producing human-use radiopharmaceuticals to support clinical trials in the Boston area. In his current role, Dr. Belanger leads Dana-Farber’s preclinical radiopharmaceutical R&D core, providing bespoke solutions to a broad range of radiochemistry challenges. With a strong background in cGMP manufacturing, Dr. Belanger has helped academic investigators and industry develop radiosynthetic and formulation strategies for over 150 different radiolabeled products utilizing Lu-177, Ac-225, Tb-161, Pb-212, as well as a wide range of diagnostic radionuclides.

Ken earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Chemistry from Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, in 2010. He has been with Waters Corporation since March 2012 and has contributed to several product launches, including CORTECS columns, UPC² Torus and Trefoil columns, and the Atlantis Premier BEH Z-HILIC column. In 2021, he transitioned to supporting Chemistry Aftermarket initiatives such as Indomitable. Ken’s focus on applications and customer education has led to numerous seminars and webinars on topics including method development, modernization and transfer, and HILIC separation techniques.
