Sustainable Aviation Fuels: Path to Greener Skies

Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) are pivotal in reducing the carbon footprint of aviation, with diverse feedstocks and production routes under active development. Fuel quality and stability must be maintained throughout the process to meet ASTM and ICAO specifications and ensure safe engine performance.
This session will focus on the role of gas chromatography (GC) and liquid chromatography (LC) in assessing SAF composition. Key areas include hydrocarbon profiling, measurement of aromatics, and detection of oxygenates such as FAME that influence fuel behavior. Case examples will show how analytical workflows support feedstock evaluation, refining optimization, and blend certification.
By linking analytical control to performance and safety, the session demonstrates how chromatography ensures SAF meets the stringent requirements of aviation applications.
