Expanding the mass spectrometry and informatics toolsets for comprehensive analysis of large RNA constructs

The rise of therapeutics and vaccines based on large RNA structures (such as sgRNA/CRISPR and mRNA), has highlighted the need for precise RNA sequence and modification analysis. Mass spectrometry offers powerful capabilities for RNA characterization, but data interpretation can be complex and resource intensive.
In this webinar, we’ll explore how Waters and MKI support RNA analysis with a comprehensive suite of tools—including novel sample prep enzymes, high-purity reagents, application-specific standards, and streamlined informatics. These innovations enable routine, in-depth characterization of critical quality attributes such as 5’ capping efficiency, 3’ poly(A) tail heterogeneity, and oligonucleotide mapping.
We’ll showcase the waters_connect platform, simplifying automated MS1 data analysis with seamless integration with third-party tools. Special guest Matsubara-san from MKI will present the AQXeNA software, offering automated MS2-based oligonucleotide mapping for early-stage RNA product development
Presenter: Yuki Matsubara (Software Scientist, Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd.,)
Transitioned from a wet lab research background to dry lab software development. Currently at Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd., leading the development of AQXeNA, a mass spectrometry data analysis software for nucleic acids.
Presenter: Catalin Doneanu PhD. (Principal Chemist, Waters Corporation)
Catalin Doneanu received his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Oregon State University in 2002. After a postdoctoral stage in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at University of Washington in Seattle, he joined Waters Corporation in 2006. He is currently a Principal Chemist in the Biopharmaceutical Sciences group. He has more than twenty years of experience in separation sciences and mass spectrometry. His areas of expertise in LC-MS include analysis of oligonucleotides, host cell protein analysis, MS based quantification of peptides and proteins, protein characterization and analysis or protein aggregates.
