Unlocking Accurate PFAS Analysis: Advanced Sample Prep and LC/MS/MS Workflows for Complex Food Matrices

Since the 1940s, the global utilization of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) in the production of various commodities, including firefighting foams and textiles, has been extensive. PFAS are now recognized as toxic to both humans and wildlife, necessitating their control and monitoring worldwide. While the initial focus of PFAS analysis has primarily been on environmental samples such as water and soil, there is a growing interest in quantifying their presence in the food chain. PFAS can enter our food through soil or water, as well as via cookware or food packaging.
This webinar we will help you to understand more about the latest advancements in sample preparation strategies to enable accurate PFAS determination in challenging food matrices. It will also outline the end-to-end analytical workflows for LC/MS/MS multi-target PFAS determinations.
Key learning objectives:
- Understand the various EU regulations for PFAS in different food matrices
- Understand why effective sample preparation is required to fulfill the regulations
- Attendees will be equipped with a LC/MS/MS workflow solution they can implement right away
Who should attend?
Anyone who is working in a laboratory environment preparing food samples for PFAS analysis:
- Private CRO food safety testing laboratories
- Government food testing laboratories
- Academic food science laboratories
- Food lab managers
- Food lab instrument operators
Presenter: Carola Damen (LC/MS Product Specialist Benelux, Agilent Technologies)
Carola Damen PhD PharmD obtained her master's degree in pharmacy at the University of Groningen, after which she completed her pharmacist training at the same university. She obtained her PhD at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam. During her studies, she specialized fully in analytical chemistry, particularly liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.
Carola fulfilled various laboratory functions focusing on small molecule analysis using LC/MS. She has been working as a product specialist LC/MS at Agilent since 2020 and has a special point of interest in the analysis of PFAS components in various matrices.
Presenter: Scott Bollen (Business Development Manager EMEA, Agilent Technologies)
Scott specializes in small molecule LC columns, ranging from HPLC to UHPLC. Scott has worked at Agilent for 17 years. He started as a technical support manager, and now supports new LC products in R&D as well as the entirety of the existing small molecule LC column portfolio in business development.
