Thermo Fisher Scientific: Comprehensive characterization of electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries

The efficiency and reliability of lithium-ion batteries are significantly impacted by the detailed composition and impurities of their electrolytes. This webinar focuses on the comprehensive characterization of both major components and impurities in these electrolytes through the use of gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), ion chromatography mass spectrometry (IC-MS), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). GC-MS enables the separation and detection of volatile organic compounds, IC-MS detects ionic compounds, and ICP-MS detects trace metal impurities.

The combined data from these techniques offer a thorough understanding of the electrolyte, which is crucial for enhancing battery performance and lifespan. Drawing upon our extensive experience in battery technology, we will present case studies and experimental findings that demonstrate the necessity of this integrated analytical approach.

There will also be the opportunity for a live Q&A with the speakers.

Presenter: Dr. Daniel Kutscher (Manager Product Applications, TEA, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Dr. Daniel Kutscher manages the Application Development for trace elemental analysis and GC/GC-MS products at Thermo Fisher Scientific. After graduation in Chemistry in 2007, Daniel obtained his PhD from the University of Oviedo in 2011. In the same year, he joined Thermo Fisher Scientific and has had different roles in application development and marketing.

Presenter: Dr. Simon Göckler (Market Sales Specialist – Clean Energy, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Dr. Simon Göckler, Market Sales Specialist for Clean Energy/EMEA at Thermo Fisher Scientific, graduated with a degree in food chemistry in 2005 and earned his PhD in 2009 at KIT. He joined Dionex the same year, gaining extensive experience in ion chromatography and other chromatography techniques. Simon has held various roles in instrument sales and business development. At Thermo Fisher, he focuses on the clean energy market, leveraging his expertise to drive growth and innovation.

Presenter: Dr. Timothy Cross (Senior Manager, EMEA Regional Marketing, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Dr. Timothy Cross, Senior Manager of EMEA Regional Marketing at Thermo Fisher Scientific, graduated with a degree in Biology in 1995 and an MSc in Immunology in 1996 before subsequently earning his PhD in Immunology at the University of Birmingham, UK Following a short spell in proteomics R&D, he has undertook a number of marketing roles in life and analytical science markets, joining Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2014, initially as Regional Marketing Manager for HPLC and CDS Software.
