Accelerating Routine Food & Beverage Testing with Optimized Methods

Explore the latest technology and methodology solutions to help you deliver results more easily and efficiently for routine Food and Beverage QC testing for : Sugars, Sugar Substitutes Additives, Vitamins and Amino Acids.

EPISODE 4 - Amino Acid Analysis

Amino acid testing is a high-volume assay for many food and dietary supplement companies, and is needed for infant formula, animal feed, sports nutrition products, and dietary supplement labeling. The Waters AccQ-Tag™ Ultra Derivatization kit is the industry standard for amino acids analysis and is included in AOAC Official Method 2018.16 for infant formulas, adult nutrional's, dairy and cereals. While kits make analyses easier, it is important to consider which sample preparation tecniques and LC systems are best fit for your specific needs

This presentation will include:

  • An overview of the Waters AccQ-Tag Ultra Derivatization kit for amino acid analysis

  • Sample preparation for free and bound amino acids in various matrices

  • HPLC and UPLC™ options for separation and detection

  • Increased workflow efficiency with the Andrew+Pipetting Robot

Guest Speaker Presentation summary:

Amino acids are key nutrients and building blocks for all proteins. They need to be provided in adequate quantities through food to ensure proper growth and to maintain good health. Amino acid profiling helps us ensure the high quality of products such as infant formulas, nutritional products, dairy products, and cereals. A standardized method is needed to ensure consistent and comparable results across the many different labs that perform amino acid profiling. In this presentation, I will share the standardization journey of our total amino acid method based on pre-column derivatization by 6-aminoquinolyl-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate (AQC), and discuss next steps to improve method throughput.
