Many chemical substances enter our waterways from different sources and pathways. The EU Water Framework Directive and local regulations only require a small number of these substances to be monitored. Yet, the potential impacts of this pool of chemical substances on the environment and human health remain unclear. To monitor a broad range of compounds, providing insight into the “chemical cocktail” in Scottish waters, Janine has developed an HRAM method with a straightforward data processing scheme providing fast, sensitive, cost-effective analysis that is flexible to meet evolving project requirements.

Janine is a Senior Specialist Scientist at the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), with over 15 years of experience in the water and environmental sectors. She specialises in method development spanning LCMS, GCMS, ICPMS and IC. Janine is a strong advocate for mentoring and championing her early career colleagues and holds Chartered Chemist and Chartered Scientist status with RSC. She is an active member of the Organic Subgroup of the Standing Committee of Analysts.
