Use of automated HPTLC in the field of lipidomics

The separation and analysis of lipids and lipid-based formulations like mRNA vaccines by chromatography in conjunction with spectrometry can be challenging. Many lipids lack a chromophore and not all lipid classes have an appropriate retention on reversed-phase. Separation on normal phase followed by a rapid derivatization with primuline simplifies lipid analysis in many cases.

In this webinar, Prof. Dr. Melanie Broszat, full professor in Analytical Chemistry at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences and Editor of the CAMAG Bibliography Services at CAMAG, will present the potential of HPTLC in the field of lipids. A method for quality control of lipid-based formulations with the fully automated HPTLC PRO System will be shown. She will also discuss the use of HPTLC coupled with mass spectrometry in the field of lipidomic research.

Prof. Dr. Melanie Broszat is a full professor in Analytical Chemistry at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany. She is also the editor of CAMAG’s customer journal and the Secretary General of the Germany Chapter of the international HPTLC Association. From 2014 to 2022, she worked as a Scientific Business Development Manager at CAMAG in Switzerland. She studied for her PhD in molecular biology and environmental microbiology under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Grohmann at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, Germany, from 2010 to 2013. From 2004 to 2008 she studied Process Engineering at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences.

Carrie completed a Ph.D. from The University of Plymouth, where she developed graphene-based biosensors for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
