Waters Corporation: Arc HPLC Technology for Reproducible Analysis of PEO/PEG

Join us as we highlight the latest developments in separations technology for formulation QC from Waters Corporation. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and Polyethylene oxide (PEO) are very good examples of hydrophilic polymers and are commonly used in the development of medicinal applications and industrial applications due to their water solubility. Measuring physicochemical properties of these polymers chromatographically is a key step in QC testing regimes that ensure these raw materials are fit for their intended use.

The molecular weight of PEG and PEO are measured by size exclusion chromatography (SEC), also known as gel permeation chromatography (GPC) for both medicinal and industrial products, which makes them an excellent candidate for an aqueous SEC analysis.

In this experiment, the presentation of aqueous SEC using an Arc HPLC with linear columns will demonstrate a quick, easy and reproducible analysis of PEO/PEG, and the Empower GPC data with System Suitability statistics will give confidence in the molecular weight assay.

Presenter: Jennifer Gough (Senior Scientist, Waters Corporation)

Jennifer Gough is a senior scientist at Waters Corporation developing applications for advanced polymer chromatography and supporting the scientific operations team within the Materials Science group, and recently worked on a collaboration with James Browne from TA on the analysis of polylactic acid. Jennifer has 22 years in the chemical industry focused on polymer synthesis and characterization for Bostik Coating Adhesives and Cabot Inkjet Dispersions. During her career, Jennifer’s work has led her from the research, scale-up, and manufacture of polymeric materials, to an ATRP consortium with the Matyjaszewski group at Carnegie Mellon, and SANS analysis of inkjet dispersions at NIST.
