Pesticide residues analysis - Sample preparation and IC-MS
Thermo Fisher Scientific: Emerging Topics in Food Safety
Session 1: Sample preparation challenges and solutions for pesticides residue analysis.
Sample extraction is the start of any analytical chromatography process and in food this can be more than a little challenging, discover some tips and tricks to help you get ahead.
Session 2: Ionic polar pesticides
include some of the most frequently used pesticides worldwide but also present unique challenges to traditional methods of pesticide analysis.
Traditional extraction methods typically suffer from low extraction efficiency of highly ionic polar pesticides and RPLC methods have very poor retention of highly ionic polar pesticides.
Advances in the analysis of these target analytes has led to an increase in testing and regulation, driven primarily by anionic polar pesticides such as glyphosate and gluphosinate.
For cationic pesticides such as paraquat and diquat (quats) analytical method developments have lagged due to poor chromatographic resolution of the paraquat – diquat pair and often requiring high resolution accurate mass spectrometers.
This webinar will recap on polar pesticide analysis utilizing ion chromatography, including the inclusion of IC-MS/MS as a EURL-SRM, as well as reviewing the development of a new method for the analysis of quats in food and beverage matrices
Who should attend:
- Lab managers and analysts that have analytical challenges when testing food and beverages
- QA/QC and research laboratories that want to keep up to date and also be ready for future challenges
- Lab leaders who want to leverage the full analytical potential of their analytical instrumentation
Presenter: (Wai-Chi Man, Product Marketing Manager, IC/SP, Thermo Fisher Scientific)
Recently moved into Product Marketing from Application Sales Support role within ThermoFisher Scientific but was a customer.
Specialised in Ion Chromatography (IC) for over 32 years with 35 years in Analytical Chemistry experience in a wide range of techniques (IC, LC, GC, CE, MS, NMR, ICP, FTIR etc). Spent 7 Years at Wellcome Research supporting Structural Elucidation for Medicinal Chemists using a wide range of analytical instrumentation. A total of 20 Years in the Pharma industry as part of GlaxoSmith Kline, from Research to transferring methods to Manufacturing. Worked on and responsible for many drugs from anti-viral to respiratory.
Have been working for ThermoFisher Scientific since 2011 working with a wide range of customers from varies industry, providing ion chromatography support in method development, troubleshooting, sample preparation, trainings, seminars, events and workshops. Within this time, I have built a greater knowledge, skill and understanding within varies areas in IC such as IC-MS, IC-ICP-MS, HPAE-PAD analysis, metabolomics and polar pesticides.
I am passionate in promoting STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) to future Scientists by encouraging, nurturing and supporting them.
