Waters Corporation: Unraveling the complexity: Advanced analysis of polymeric nanostructures

Supramolecular structures formed from bioactive and responsive polymers can be used as smart carrier systems for enzymes or drugs. Given the inherent heterogeneity of these complex nanostructures, their characterization is a significant challenge.

In this exclusive webinar, join experts Dr. Susanne Boye and Dr. Robert Mildner, to learn more about asymmetric-flow field-flow fractionation (AF4), a versatile, state-of-the-art separation technique for simplifying sample matrices, enabling subsequent microstructural analysis. Coupled AF4 with multiple online detectors (multi-angle light scattering, dynamic light scattering, differential refractometer, UV/Vis and differential viscometer) provides rich data for multidimensional characterization and correlation.

The MD-AF4 analytical platform supports in-depth physical and chemical understanding of natural and synthetic macromolecules, their self-assemblies and bioconjugates. Dr. Boye and Dr. Mildner will discuss MD-AF4 and its applications to polymer-protein hybrids, exosome-polymer-hybrids, stimuli-responsive polymeric vesicles and single chain nanoparticles.

Key learning objectives

  • Learn more about the background and instrumentation for separation and analysis by MD-AF4

  • Find out how MD-AF4 determines physical and chemical parameters of natural and synthetic macromolecules

  • Discover how MD-AF4 is used to analyze self-assemblies and bioconjugates

Who should attend?

  • Chemists and nanoengineers requiring in-depth characterization of complex polymeric and nanoparticle systems

  • Drug-development scientists exploring analytical instrumentation for nano-drug delivery vehicles

Presenter: Susanne Boye, PhD (Center for Macromolecular Structure Analysis)

Dr. Susanne Boye is the leader of the Field-flow Fractionation team of the Polymer Separation Group, the leader of the Thermal Analysis Lab and deputy head of the Center for Macromolecular Structure Analysis of the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF), Germany. She graduated in biochemical engineering and obtained a PhD in the polymer separation field at the Technical University Dresden and IPF. Dr. Boye is particularly interested in the conformation analysis of biomacromolecules and the physico-chemical characterization of polymer-protein conjugates, complex synthetic and natural (bio-) nanostructures and molecular interactions, with more than 60 publications in these fields.

Presenter: Robert Mildner, PhD (Waters | Wyatt Technology)

Dr. Robert Mildner is an Application Scientist at Wyatt Technology in Europe, where he is responsible for performing research projects and feasibility studies utilizing Wyatt´s unique instrumentation. His work includes testing of novel applications as well as the implementation of established methods for users of Wyatt instruments. He focuses on field-flow fractionation (FFF) and size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) coupled to multi-angle light scattering (MALS). Robert obtained his PhD from the University of Technology Braunschweig, Germany, in the field of macromolecular chemistry.

Presenter. Carrie Haslam (SelectScience)

Dr. Carrie Haslam is an Associate Editor at SelectScience, playing a key role in content production and specializing in Materials Science, Alzheimer’s disease and Clinical Diagnostics. Carrie completed a Ph.D. from The University of Plymouth, where she developed graphene-based biosensors for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
